In 2006, by passing the Higher Education Reconciliation Act, Congress made financial aid more available for online college students. Until then, financial aid was available for traditional, on-campus schools only. As with any traditional institution, there are three ways of receiving help to cover the expenses of your online college education: financial aid, scholarships, and loans.

However, you will not receive financial aid or loans for all online colleges. You must choose an accredited, recognized, and respected online institution in order to receive help from the government or private lenders. In fact, some government agencies and private lenders are prohibited from giving grants for unaccredited colleges.

Once you pick a school that you know is qualified for financial aid, search online or elsewhere for government and private grants. There are a number of different sources that provide such services for in-need students.

If what you receive in grants is not enough, there are also government loans. If you qualify, you can receive subsidized loans, which means that there is 0% APR until you earn your degree.

There are still other ways to find financial help for your online education. If you are employed by a mid to large size company while you are earning your degree, you may be able to have the company fund your education, partially or fully.

There are many ways to pay for college, so do not let costs stand in the way of your education, just look hard enough and you will find help.

There are many reasons why people choose an online education over a traditional one. Affordability is certainly one of them. But how exactly is an online degree more affordable than a traditional one?

The biggest financial benefit comes from the fact that students who attend on-campus schools pay thousands of dollars over the years on housing, food, transportation, and many other necessities. However, naturally you will not have that problem by earning a degree from an accredited online college from the comfort of your home.

Another reason is that with an online college you will pay tuition per-course and each course is considerably cheaper online than in on-campus institutions. On top of this, if you fail to earn your degree on time in an on-campus college, you will be charged for an additional semester to take whatever number of classes needed to graduate. Also, public colleges and universities charge double tuition for out-of-state students, while you will almost never pay an extra charge for an out of state online college.

In reality, with an online college, you are getting virtually the same degree as in an on-campus school, while still being able to afford it. It is no wonder then why millions of people choose to earn their degree from an online college.

Do you want to enter a nursing degree program? For many people, the want is there, but the need isn’t: funds. Nursing programs can be expensive and too often, people don’t know that there is help out there.

Federal financial aid is available for those interested in becoming nurses. Filling out a FAFSA application can be daunting, but doing it can mean you get an incredible sum of money towards your education.

There are also a number of private scholarships available for those willing to apply. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing offers numerous scholarships for prospective nursing students. From scholarships for nurse educators, to scholarships for those seeking their BA’s, Master’s, or more, AACN knows you may need help and they’re there for you.

AACN also offers resources from other organizations, such as the American Indian Graduate Center, the Assembly for Men in Nursing Foundation, and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, to give you a leg up if you come from a minority background.

So don’t let being lower income stop you from helping those who need it. Apply for help, enter a nursing degree program, and be on your way to a new career.

Financing education is often the biggest reason most people can’t go back to school. Online degree programs offer a cheaper alternative while still providing high quality education. Not only is an online education more cost effective, but financial aid can usually be applied even for online programs.

There are many scholarships available to those who choose an online education. Scholarships are money granted to students so they can pursue a graduate or undergraduate education, without any need for repayment. While scholarships are awarded for a variety of reasons, the most common are for student merit, financial need, athleticism, ethnicity, and field of study. There are over 1.3 million scholarships available for students.

College grants are a new way to subsidize your education. Unlike loans, they do not have to be paid back. There are over a thousand federal grant programs in the United States, offering more than $400 billion worth of financial aid to students and organizations.

Also available are student loans, including the Stafford loan and private loans with low interest rates for students. This is money that is lent to a student while he or she is in school and that the student must pay back within a certain amount of time. Though some carry high interest, many carry low interest that sometimes doesn’t begin until after the student has completed their education. It’s not free money, but it’s often necessary to pay for an education.

Look into all of these options when funding your education. All can play a huge role in financing your education, and all are usually accepted in accredited online degree programs.

College is expensive, but many programs have been put in place to help you pay for your education, especially for those who feel alone in their field.

Colleges love to see a diverse group of students in all of their majors and organizations. A sexual and ethnic balance means a wider array of ideas are generated and campus diversity is multiplied. To encourage this diversity, many schools offer monetary aid for those who are underrepresented in particular groups and offer one-time grants, renewable fellowships, work-study packages, as well as various types of scholarships. For women in the math, science, and engineering fields, groups such as The Society of Women Engineers and The Association for Women in Science offer various opportunities for private financial aid and scholarships. For men in nursing and teaching programs, help is also available. In 2005, The American Assembly of Men in Nursing Foundation created one of the first scholarship programs aimed specifically at men.

Other organizations, such as The Latino Business Students Association and The Black Business Students Association encourage ethnic diversity in fields where little diversity exists, and offer special scholarships for students who showcase exceptional promise, need, or who have given back to their community.

Though help is sometimes hard to find, colleges are willing to work with you in order to help you get the education you need.

In today’s economy families are being forced to cut some of their living expenses, including the amount they are willing to pay for college. A survey conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute found that concerns about college affordability are at a 35-year high.

Just because prices are high, does not mean that someone should forgo a college education. There are several ways that students can cut their costs while still earning a degree.

If you have your heart set on a particular school and don’t want to change your plan for financial reasons, think about completing your lower division courses at a local community college. By putting off attending your first-choice school for two years you will be saving approximately $7,500, according to a 2007 College Board report.

If you choose to also live at home while attending community college, you can save an additional $8,000 that would have been spent on room and board at a four-year school. This way you can get a degree, save money and minimize student loan debt.

Yes, college is expensive—but there are many ways to work around the costs.
